The LGBTQ Center Student Coordinators for Community Engagement advocate for the needs of LGBTQ+ students, educate the campus community on relevant LGBTQ+ topics/issues, and provide outreach for the LGBTQ Center’s services and programs. LGBTQ Center student staff will advance their skills in inclusive community building by providing event support, engaging the Center’s visitors, and connecting students with campus and community resources. This role will provide valuable experience for future careers in community outreach and advocacy, social work and counseling, event planning, nonprofit leadership, diversity education, LGBTQ+ research, and more!

RESPONSIBILITIESΒ Β Β 

  • Plan and implement initiatives and events for LGBTQ+ studentsΒ 
  • Communicate with the LGBTQ+ student community to determine their needs and the campus climateΒ 
  • Promote Center programming and participate in outreach activities to raise the visibility of the CenterΒ 
  • Assist the Director and Pride Fellow with planning and implementing LGBTQ Center staple programming (e.g. Welcome Reception, Lavender Graduation, and others)Β 
  • Develop informational and educational materials on LGBTQ+ topics for the campus communityΒ 
  • Provide support for LGBTQ Center eventsΒ 
  • Greet visitors to the LGBTQ Center and actively foster a welcoming, inclusive environmentΒ 
  • Provide general office support and maintenance of the CenterΒ 
  • Provide peer-to-peer support and referrals for students who need resourcesΒ 
  • Work 6 hours a week for the LGBTQ Center, which includes weekly one-hour staff meetings and weekly half-hour supervisor meetings.Β

QUALIFICATIONSΒ Β Β 

  • Previous experience with leadership, event planning, and/or community engagement preferredΒ 
  • Must be available for staff training at the beginning of each semester employed (the weekend before classes start), which will be compensatedΒ 
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of historically marginalized students’ experiences and needsΒ 
  • Must always carry oneself as a representative of the LGBTQ Center, a student leader, and a role model for one's communities and Ithaca CollegeΒ 
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality with Center documents, meetings, conversations, and visitorsΒ 
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Ithaca CollegeΒ 
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5Β 
  • Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to starting and during the entire period of employmentΒ

Starting pay for this position is $15.50 an hour.Β
