Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in all phases of food service: receiving, storage, food preparation, serving, cleaning and dishwashing.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Lead Cook with ensuring that all food preparation and sanitation practices are in accordance with appropriate Washington State and Spokane County codes.
  2. Work in conjunction with HOC volunteers.
  3. Assist in preparation for monthly kitchen inspections for adherence to all relevant guidelines.
  4. Perform or ensure coverage for end-of-day cleaning in the kitchen area.
  5. Perform duties as a back-up for the Lead Cook, as needed.
  6. Perform as a team member to ensure that productivity outcome measures are achieved.
  7. Plan and ensure the logistics of deliveries and procurement of all donations.
  8. Adhere to the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine.
  9. Uses appropriate administrative, fiscal, physical, and technical safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of CCEW client protected health information (PHI), per regulations outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  10. Will regularly utilize all forms of communication (email, text, phone, etc.) and database practices necessary for this position and as directed by supervisor.
  11. As a mandated reporter, follows all procedures outlined in agency policies and procedures to report to the proper agency when there is suspicion and/or confirmation that a child or adult has been a victim of abuse or neglect.

Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below.Β  These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job.Β 

Β 

Education/Experience:Β  to perform this job successfully, an individual must have a High School Diploma or a General Education Degree. Dishwashing experience and familiar with institutional cooking strongly preferred.

Certificates/Licenses:Β  To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a Food Handler’s Permit and a valid driver’s license.Β  Successfully pass background check applicable to position.Β

Physical Abilities:Β  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly sit, stand, climb, walk, hear/listen, talk
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds, pull/push, carry, grasp, reach, taste, smell
  • Occasionally crawl, kneel, stoop
  • Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors, ability to focus
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment

Workplace Environmental Conditions

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will be:Β

  • Exposure to Trauma: Employees of Catholic Charities Eastern Washington provide direct services to vulnerable community members including those who have behavioral health challenges and those who have been exposed to trauma.
