Description

  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of HCS’s mission and programs, maintaining collaborative working relationships with all departments to craft messages for potential major donor program sponsors and partnerships.
  • Develop and implement major gift donor strategies including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and retention for a portfolio of both current and prospective donors.
  • Develop funding requests based on the goals of the organization for high-net-worth individuals and play a lead role in soliciting and closing major gifts.
  • Cultivate and solicit individual donor prospects who can contribute major gifts starting at $10,000.
  • Manages all prospect activities for his/her/their portfolio; expands the portfolio to approximately 200+ active major gift supporters.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes all major gift related events including but not limited to major gift cultivation events.
  • Manage and coordinate donor groups to cultivate and request new gifts.
  • Lead yearly annual giving campaigns, including design, creation, and implementation of annual giving collateral.
  • Responsible for ensuring annual giving fundraising targets are met or exceeded.
  • Monitor and report on annual giving prospects, donors, and goals to achieve annual giving goals.
  • Develops and implements a strategic fundraising plan for major gifts which complements the other fundraising programs of HCS.
  • Facilitates and organizes the efforts to introduce the CEO and President to all major gift prospects and current major gift donors. Supports CEO and President as public-facing representative of the agency in their fundraising efforts.
  • Responsible for all follow up and relationship management of major gift donors.
  • Respond to donor inquiries, questions, and issues in a timely manner.
  • Plan, prepare for, and provide day-of on-site execution of events in multiple locations across assigned region, appealing to a variety of target communities.
  • Travel to sites across assigned region in preparation for and to implement event strategies.
  • Track and report on metrics related to events coordination.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of events operations, including planning, implementation, and debriefing.
  • Tracks and reports on pledges, fulfillment, and donations toward event fundraising targets.
  • Oversee advertising strategy to engage interest in event attendance.
  • Develop and implement an events strategic plan in partnership with the President and other regional Directors of Philanthropy and Strategic Relationships.
  • Oversee development of events materials, events management platforms, and events advertisement, in adherence to program requirements and agency branding, messaging, and values.
  • Research funder histories to understand giving levels and types of projects funded and provide informed request recommendations to the advancement team.
  • Draft technically strong proposals that are tailored to each funder’s priorities and interests. Tailor proposals to use the language and strategies most impactful for each unique funder.
  • Lead the development and collection of supporting documentation and coordinate many contributors to the collection of necessary application materials.
  • Provides strong, clear, and accessible project management to keep all contributors on task and on time.
  • Track grant submission deadlines, both new proposals and renewals, and ensure all grant proposals are submitted timely.
  • Records grant award history and strategizes with the President to continuously improve capture rate.
  • Stores all submissions, materials, and feedback from funders in a centrally accessible database.
  • Participates in regular supervision with the VP for Advancement, including participation in performance improvement plans.
  • Participates in planning and execution of Detroit golf outing in partnership with members of the Advancement team.
  • Performs other duties related to the essential duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by one’s supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations or another related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in fundraising and donor development required
  • Nonprofit experience required
  • At least three years of successful individual major giving experience in non-profit development required
  • Must have successful track record of securing major gifts
  • Record of successfully engaging leadership and Board members in the fundraising process.
  • History of a strong capture rate, grant writing
  • 3+ years of experience in fundraising events coordination
  • Lived experience in child welfare or homelessness strongly preferred CFRE preferred but not required preferred but not required
  • Licenses Required: β€’ Valid and Current Driver’s License
  • Meet State β€œGood Moral Character” guidelines.
  • High responsiveness to stakeholders and sensitivity to unique donor needs
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skill
  • Exceptional project and time management skill
  • Experience in fundraising events planning
