Job Description

The Desert Research Institute's STEM Education Division is seeking a STEM Education Assistant in Las Vegas. This position will support STEM and energy conservation education, teacher training, STEM Co-Lab Lending Library, development of hands-on activities, and educational outreach events. Ideal candidates are those pursuing a K-12 teaching degree, science, or related career path in education, STEM education, science education, etc. The following tasks will be required for this position:

  • Develop educational activities

  • Prep and facilitate educational and public outreach events

  • Present EnergySmart Education programs during K-12 programming and community events

  • Assist with training and event planning and implementation

  • Assist with administration of STEM Co-Lab Lending Library

  • Potential paid travel opportunities

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; if enrolled at an NSHE institution for the 2024-2025 school year, students must carry at least 6 credits to be considered a student worker

  • Strong interest in working with K-12 students and/or educators

  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite programs

  • Ability to work independently and maintain responsibility for individual work

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills

  • Organized with an attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual – Spanish and English

  • Experience working with PreK-12 students, educators, or

  • Knowledge with graphic design programs to create flyers or presentations

Compensation Grade

  • $17.20 per hour depending on experience, no benefits

Schedule

  • 15 - 20 hours per week, flexible hours

  • Periodic Saturday and evening events

Physical Requirements

  • This position may need to occasionally perform physical tasks such as lifting objects up to 60 lbs., stooping, bending, kneeling or standing for long periods of time.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation as local travel is required

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
